The Second Coming of Christ

Mark 13:31-37

In due course, and at a time that only God the Father knows (Mark 13:32), this age will end and Jesus will again fulfill the promise on the day of this ascension, This same Jeus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven. (Acts 1:11)

Though, like the man who sees the signs of summer in the budding of the fig tree (Mark 13:28-29), discerning souls may sense the imminence of the coming of the Lord, yet it is not within our providence to know in advance the precise moment of his appearance.

Our part is to be watchful (on guard and alert) and prayerful (Mark 13:33), to be ready when the Lord shall come (Mark 13:37). It is more than that, however. We are to be ceaselessly occupied in the work that God has given into our hands (Mark 13:34), the work of preaching the gospel to men and women of every nation.
